WWCC volleyball team defeats Chukars, 3-0

ONTARIO, Ore. — Desiree Nielson’s 16 kills, two aces and two blocks highlighted a three-set Walla Walla Community College victory over host Treasure Valley Wednesday night in NWAACC East Region volleyball, 27-25, 25-19 and 25-19.

“Half way through the match, Desiree found her form and started posting some nice nice numbers,” WWCC coach Tim Toon said in a press release.

Despite his team picking up sweep of the last-place Chukars (0-8 East Region, 4-23 overall), Toon felt the Warriors had a lot to work on.

“With five weeks left in the season, things continue to be touch and go,” Toon said. We will have to train through the mini-slump we are in and hope to gain elite form in time for the NWAACC Tourney.”

Three other Warriors got into the hit action, with Taylor Lancaster posting nine kills and Renee Baumann and Reese Amy each adding eight. Baumann also had seven digs.

“Taylor and Renee added a very nice spark to our offense tonight,” Toon said. “These are some of their better totals of the season.”

Courtney Cosdon assisted on 38 points and had eight digs. Jess Smith had 15 digs, and Delaney Fisher 10.

JaLisa Jose added six kills.

“Although we did not play great, we were able to secure the road win,” Toon said. After taking a two-week break, our serve received returned to a very high level. We also saw some nice performances from our outside hitters.”

The Warriors visit a Columbia Basin team (4-5, 9-11) Friday that is playing for a spot in the NWAACC playoffs.

“We have all but wrapped up a playoff spot, but they are fighting hard to grab the last available slot in the post season.” Toon said. “I hope we bring our “A” game.”
