PASCO — Wa-Hi’s soccer season came to an end Tuesday at Edgar Brown Memorial Stadium.

But the Blue Devils didn’t go down without a fight, falling 2-1 in penalty kicks to Pasco in the first round of the Class 4A district playoffs.

“We were pressuring the ball,” Wa-Hi coach Jesse Cruz said. “We just played really well. We came very close to winning the game, but we just couldn’t finish.”

Abby Bruckenberger scored for Pasco in the 27th minute and Kiana Molitor scored the equalizer on a Brittany Gibbar assist at the 49th-minute mark.

Pasco outshot Wa-Hi 11-6. Keeper Alyssa James made five saves in the loss.

Neither team scored through two five-minute sudden death overtimes before going to penalty kicks, where Pasco outscored Wa-Hi 3-2.

“It hurts because the girls played a great game,” Cruz said. “They played so hard and they wanted it so bad, but that’s the game sometimes. We just didn’t execute those PKs that well.”

Anna Pettyjohn, Rae Gilliam, Brittany Gibbar, Allie Greene, Dominique Cox, Brigit Lyons and Maggie Callan all played their last games in Blue Devil uniforms.

“We could have advanced and that would have been awesome, but it didn’t happen and that’s nothing to be ashamed of,” Cruz said. “We had a great season.”
