Train kills man, 81, who lived close to tracks, near Pendleton


PENDLETON — The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office says an 81-year-old man who was struck and killed by a train near Pendleton lived near the tracks.

Sheriff John Trumbo told the East Oregonian that the death on Monday appeared to be an accident.

Union Pacific Railroad told emergency dispatchers the train struck a pedestrian at a crossing. The man, whose identity has not been released, died at the scene.
