CP home a 'total loss' after fire

COLLEGE PLACE – Officials have not released the names of six people who lost their home in College Place to a fire late Wednesday night.

Fire District 4 responded to the blaze at 253 Pearmain Ave. at just after 9 p.m., Wednesday, according to Assistant Fire Chief Brian Jones.

“All the people were out and were safe,” Jones said, indicating the family included three young children, two parents, and a grandmother.

“It looks like the house is a total loss,” Jones said, adding the contents went up with the rest of the house. “We haven’t established a value yet.”

According to Jones, the cause of the fire is still unknown, but appears to be an accident.

“I’ve got an investigator out there right now,” Jones said this morning, adding the family apparently did not have insurance.

The Walla Walla Red Cross began helping late last night, helping the fire victims find shelter and food for the night, according to Director Jerry Cummins.

“Whatever their needs are, we’ll try to meet it on a short-term basis,” Cummins said.

Cash or gift card donations for the family can be made at Hapo Credit Union at at 2376 Taumarson Road.
