Jessica Dodd also contributed at the net for the Pioneers with six kills.

“We have come a long way in the last three years,” Rodighiero said. “I feel like we are coming together and doing what we have worked on for three years. It is now coming naturally.

“Helix is also in the process of rebuilding its program,” the Mac-Hi coach added.

The Grizzlies, who saw their record slide to 0-4 with Tuesday’s loss, started one senior, one junior and four freshmen in the match.

“We are very, very young and inexperienced,” Helix coach Tammie Parker said. “Even though we’ve lost, we’ve shown improvement every time we’ve played. We are getting better on a daily basis.”

The Grizzlies will play again next Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Walla Walla Valley Academy in College Place in another non-league match.

Rodighiero is looking forward to Mac-Hi’s GOL season, she said.

“We are going to battle in the GOL,” she said. “We’ve got to work for it, but I think we can be in the postseason. La Grande and Baker are the teams we will have to battle for one of those top three spots.”
