POMEROY — Pomeroy bested Asotin Tuesday night in a five-set battle that saw the Pirates fall behind 2-0 before rallying for a 3-2 victory in Southest 1B-2B interleague play, 26-28, 18-25, 25-23, 25-13 and 15-8.

“We missed too many serves in sets one and two, (we) served much better the rest of the way,” Pomeroy coach Bruce Crossfield said. “

“Haley Thomas came off the bench and gave us a lift in sets three and four, her best performance of the young season. (I) thought we showed some real mental toughness down the stretch.”

Mackie Monahan and Savannah Ruark powered the Pomeroy offense with 20 and 19 kills, respectively. Ruark also led with seven blocks.

Ireland Mayfield set up 42 points and also served for four aces.

McKenzie Uto dug up six balls.
