MAUPIN, Ore. — Helix posted its first win of the season here at the South Wasco volleyball tournament Saturday.
The Grizzlies dropped a 20-12, 20-12 match to South Wasco to open pool play but responded with their first win as Helix dominated Spray 20-4 in the first set and took the match with a 20-15 win in the second set.
The Spray win advanced the Grizzlies to bracket play where they were matched with Central Christian, the No. 1 from the other pool.
Central Christian prevailed 25-11 and 25-20 to end the Grizzlies tournament run.
“We served 90 percent today,” Helix coach Tammie Parker said. “We were pleased with that. The kids keep improving. We took a big step forward in the Central Christian match.”
The Grizzlies return to Big Sky conference action with a visit to Echo Tuesday.
