Heavy hitters in the wine industry with Walla Walla connections — and the Valley itself — are up for some heavy hardware in a magazine’s worldwide awards.
Nominees for Wine Enthusiast Magazine’s 13th annual showcase include Charles Smith for winemaker of the year, Leonetti Cellars for American winery of the year and the Walla Walla Valley for wine region of the year.
“I’m thrilled to death with this nomination,” Smith said in a news release. “It is not only a great honor as a winemaker, but also a symbol of the quality of wines that are coming out of Washington state.”
Also on the nominee list are Andrew Browne, founder and CEO of Precept Wine, the Seattle-based owner of Waterbrook, Canoe Ridge and other wineries. Precept is also up for importer of the year.
Wine Enthusiast Magazine is a monthly wine lifestyle publication that can be found online at www.winemag.com.
