Glad to see garish, amateurish octopus mural gone

The authors of two letters in the April 3 U-B beat their breasts in outrage at the city of Walla Walla’s decision to paint over the Inland Octopus mural.

Carol Nichols cried of the painted wall, “hideous,” “eyesore,” and wagged her rigid finger of shame at city officials.

Kathy Paddock parroted Ms. Nichols with her own indictment of backroom parlaying among the city “fathers,” ( I wasn’t aware we currently have city fathers), for everything from reckless spending, nefarious hiring of painters and collusion to preserve the mall as an “eyesore.”

She also said, “I’ve yet to talk to someone who was opposed to the mural.”

She should get out more. She should talk to me. I hated the thing. Talk about an eyesore. Talk about hideous.

Not only was it like something out of a garish nightmare in neon (or a really bad acid trip), it was amateurish, disproportionate in scale to the surrounding buildings, and thoughtless in scope and execution.

What it was was a mirror of Bob Catsiff’s ego — overblown, distorted and oh, so dramatic.

Now it’s gone, ’tho, Mr. Catsiff’s self-righteousness is still larger than life.

I appreciate the city officials who continue to deflect the poisonous arrows from citizens who are breathtakingly dull in their condemnation. Keep up the good work.

Good riddance to the ugly octopus.
