City motorcycle officer hurt in collision

WALLA WALLA – Walla Walla motorcycle police Officer Timothy Hollingsworth was treated and released from Providence St. Mary Medical Center, Tuesday, following a collision at Rose Street and 12th Avenue while on patrol.

According to a Washington State Patrol report, Hollingsworth was on duty at 5:24 p.m. riding east on Rose Street when a motorist entering the intersection collided with the officer.

Police cited Luis Flores Sosa, 26, for failure to yield. Sosa was uninjured.

Tim Bennett, Walla Walla Police Department spokesman, said it isn’t clear when Hollingsworth will be able to return to active duty but he suffered no broken bones or major injury.

“The Harley-Davidson was extensively damaged,” Bennett said.

The collision comes less than a month before the police department lease on the motorcycle was up, Bennett said.

“The lease ends the end of April,” he said, adding the end of the lease will also mean the end of the motorcycle program at the department.

“There are no plans to replace the motorcycles used by the patrol unit,” Bennett said.
