WAITSBURG — Chase Coppenhaver left the yard and Tavis Hodgen was one hit away from batting for the cycle Tuesday as McLoughlin High School defeated Waitsburg-Prescott, 11-1, in a non-league baseball game.
“We were glad to just get the game in just to give our guys some during-the-week play,” Mac-Hi coach Mike Garcia said. “I was happy with what the kids were able to do yesterday as far as hitting the ball well, with those extra base hits. Any time you can do that you’re going to do well. We need to eliminate some of those errors, but our pitching is coming around.”
Mac-Hi’s starter Saul Ortiz pitched five innings in the six-inning game, picking up three strikeouts, issuing two walks and giving up two hits and an unearned run.
Hodgen hit a single, double, and a triple that brought in three runs.
Mac-Hi (9-4, 1-3 in Greater Oregon League play) visits Ontario for an 11 a.m. GOL doubleheader.
Waitsburg-Prescott (7-3, 3-1 Southeast 2B) visits St. John-Endicott Saturday for a twin bill.
