W-P runs roughshod past Pomeroy, 22-1 and 22-0

POMEROY — It was two for the price of one here Tuesday afternoon as Waitsburg-Prescott flexed its offensive muscles in a non-league prep softball doubleheader.

W-P pounded out 19 hits and scored 22 runs in the first game and added on 17 more hits and another 22 runs in the nightcap. Pomeroy proved to be no match as the Pirates managed one run in the opener and were held scoreless in the second game.

Chelsey Brannock slammed a solo home run and added a double and a single to lead the visitors in the first game. Jessica Foxe and Rhiannon Chapman had three singles each in the opener, Heidi Miller, Samantha Henze and Samantha Fedderson added two singles apiece, and Katy Hofer contributed a double.

Hofer delivered a three-run home run in the second game and also chipped in with a single. Miller had four hits in the game, including a triple and a double; Brannock and Fedderson chalked up three hits each, with Brannock collecting a double and Fedderson a triple; and Chapman stroked a double and a single.

Kacey Halbert collected three hits in the second game and four on the day for Pomeroy, which managed nine hits total in the twin bill. Zoe Kerne hit safely twice in the nightcap, and Toni Cloud added one hit in each game.

“Pomeroy’s best pitcher was on a school trip, and their other two pitchers were young and struggled with location,” W-P coach Angie Potts said. “When they threw strikes, they were belt high and down the middle.

“We’ve been working real hard on hitting line drives instead of popping the ball up. And we got a hold of quite a few.”

The sweep boosted Waitsburg-Prescott’s season record to 5-4. W-P takes a 2-0 Southeast 2B District mark into a Friday league doubleheader at home against Tri-Cities Prep, with the first pitch slated for 3 p.m.
