RICHLAND — Walla Walla High School’s girls tennis team won two categories and Allison Mehn and Rachel Schueller placed second among the top pairings Saturday at the Richland Doubles Invite.

“This was the first year we have participated in a doubles invite and it proved to be a good decision,” Wa-Hi girls coach Keven Peck said. “All the girls were able to play at least three matches and get a lot of work in on their doubles game.”

Mehn and Schueller beat Hanford and Southridge before falling to Richland in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6 (10-5).

Jaime Quaresma and Lexi Swenson at No. 3 and Jennifer Bautista and Jazmin Duran at No. 4 swept their matches for first-place finishes in their respective categories.

“All in all, it was a good day of tennis,” Peck said. “We were able to identify where we are strong and where we need some work. With district play only a few weeks down the road, the timing is great.”

The Blue Devil girls next hit the courts Wednesday when they visit Pasco at 4 p.m.
