YAKIMA — Walla Walla Community College saved its best for last here in crossover NWAACC tournament softball action Saturday.

After the Wenatchee Valley bus broke down, the Warriors filled in to take on Southwest Oregon in WWCC’s third game of the day. SWOCC defeated the Warriors 17-12 and 18-5 earlier in the season.

Not this time.

The Warriors pounded out eight hits and Kelsey Locke tossed a six-hit shut out from the circle as the Warriors avenged those earlier losses with a 7-0 win.

“We played awesome,” Warrior coach Mike Staudenmaier said. “They killed us early and are ranked No. 4 in the NWAACC. Kelsey kept them off balance with her off-speed stuff.”

Brandy Knowles, Locke, and Sam Robillard each collected two hits to lead the Warrior offense. Locke and Robillard drove in two runs each.

The Warriors split their first two games of the tournament, defeating Green River 10-2 before dropping an 8-3 decision to Clackamas.

Kaitlin Erm tossed a three-hitter against Green River and Maisa Gonzalez led the Warrior offense with four hits.

The Warriors couldn’t finish innings against Clackamas. CLCC scored six runs with two outs to earn the 8-3 win. Knowles, Robillard, and Karly Hudelson each had two hits for WWCC in a losing cause.

“We feel pretty good,” Staudenmaier said. “We have 10 league games left and are moving up.”
