ONTARIO, Ore. — Mac-Hi pounded out 30 hits in support of pitcher Colette Robert here Monday afternoon in a Greater Oregon League softball doubleheader.

Not that she needed the offensive onslaught.

Robert spun both games of the twin bill, didn’t allow a Tigers run, yielded just two hits and came within one error of pitching a perfect game as the Pioneers prevailed 14-0 and 15-0 to improve their GOL mark to 6-0. The first game was stopped after six innings because of the 10-run mercy rule and the near-perfecto second game lasted just five frames.

“She came within that one error of a perfect game in the second game,” Mac-Hi coach Nicole Christian said. “The coaches were aware of it, the scorekeeper knew, but I’m not sure any of the players realized it.”

Karli Cortez and Cheyenne Kessler led Mac-Hi’s offensive attack in the first game. Cortez collected three hits and drove in a pair of runs while Kessler had a pair of hits and four RBIs.

Robert and Megan Reed had two hits apiece, and they each drove home a pair of runs. Nicole Hendley had two RBIs in the game and Makayla Kelly chased home one.

Hendley slugged two doubles and a single and drove in a pair of runs to pace the Pioneers in the nightcap. Robert had three hits of her own and drove in two runs, Cortez continued her hot hitting with three more hits and one run batted in, and Reed turned in a similar stat line. Stefanie Copeland had two hits and two RBIs while Kessler and Brianna Crewse each drove in one run.

Mac-Hi improved to 15-4 overall and Ontario’s record slid to 0-6 in the GOL and 2-13 for the season.

Monday’s games here also concluded Mac-Hi’s road schedule. The Pioneers will host three GOL doubleheaders down the stretch, with La Grande coming to Milton-Freewater for a pair of games Friday at 2 p.m., followed by Baker on May 4 and Ontario May 6.
