Blue Devils fifth at MCC POD

KENNEWICK — The large greens at Canyon Lakes Golf Course showed the Walla Walla High School girls golfers what they need to work on in the closing weeks of the season.

The Blue Devils finished fifth at the Mid-Columbia Conference POD match Wednesday, struggling on the large greens.

“We weren’t very pleased as a team with our 405 (team score),” Wa-Hi coach Mike Patterson said. “We should be in the 370-390 area.”

Hanford won with a 325, followed by Kennewick 375, Richland 380, Pasco 387, Wa-Hi 405, Southridge 408, Chiawana 416 and Kamiakin 419.

Pasco’s Naydeen Martinez shot low-score 76 on the par-72 course.

Counting scores for Wa-Hi were led by Jessica Huntsman, who tied for eighth with an 84. She was joined by Kendall Dunovant’s 95, Marissa Jimenez’s 102 and Kailee Hudson’s 124.

“We couldn’t blame it on the weather, it was beautiful,” Patterson said. “It was the size of the greens, the undulations. We had too many multiple putts on the greens. It shows the girls how important it is to concentrate on the short game. We’re going to make good use of practice on our short game.”

Wa-Hi has another MCC POD match Monday at the Tri-Cities Country Club.
