Pioneers lack run support to back up solid pitching in GOL losses to La Grande

LA GRANDE — The McLoughlin High School baseball team fell twice to the La Grande Tigers Saturday in a Greater Oregon League Conference twin bill, 4-0 and 4-2.

The Pioneer pitchers gave up only nine hits between the games, but lacked run support in the losses.

“I thought the guys came in ready to play and they competed,” Mac-Hi coach Mike Garcia said. “We just didn’t hit the baseball well and could have supported our pitchers better.”

Mac-Hi had ten hits in the doubleheader, four by Derek Richwine, and only two runs.

“We had the bases loaded four times in the two games combined,” Garcia said. “Twice we grounded into double plays, another time we came up empty and we were able to scratch out a run once. We had our chances but couldn’t quite come up with it at the plate.”

The Pioneers (10-8, 1-7 GOL) host Baker in a doubleheader Saturday.
