Blue Devil girls eighth at MCC POD match at Tri-City Country Club

KENNEWICK — Walla Walla High School placed eighth at a Mid-Columbia Conference POD match Monday at the Tri-City Country Club, a par-65 course.

Hanford won the meet with a runaway team score of 312. Other team scores were Richland 364, Pasco 368, Southridge 369, Chiawana 379, Kamiakin 382, Kennewick 382 and Walla Walla 388.

Freshman Jalayne Martinez won medalist, carding a 75 to lead all scorers.

Jessic Huntsman led the Blue Devils with a 12-over 77. Other Wa-Hi counters included Kendall Dunovant 100, Marisa Jimenez 102 and Shana Postlewait 105.

“There was some good and some bad,” Wa-Hi coach Mike Patterson said of his team’s performance. “The good is that they’re always trying — they don’t put their chins down and pout after bad holes. They’re grinding.

“The bad is that they’re just having a really hard time reading the greens,” he continued. “It’s just a matter of trying to develop our touch, we really need to hunker down and get our game ready for the final POD match Monday.”

The Blue Devils tee off Monday at Richland’s Columbia Point for the final MCC POD match of the season. Districts run May-13-14 at Veterans Memorial Golf Course and at Sun Willows.

“I was really proud of the girls (Monday),” Patterson said. “Those were really tough conditions — they were grinding.”
