WALLA WALLA — A new neighbor will be joining the proposed Courtyard by Marriott at Ninth Avenue and Rose Street.
In addition to the more than 120-room hotel chain slated for construction at the busy corner, a new Pizza Hut is reportedly in the works.
The Walla Walla Joint Community Development Agency issued a construction permit Tuesday for Pasco-based contractor Bosch II Construction Co. Inc. to build a 3,897-square-foot Pizza Hut.
No response came from an email sent Wednesday to a representative of franchisee Emerald City Pizza.
Workers have been laying the groundwork, so to speak, for major construction at the former cannery property.
Jonathan Maland, principal planner for the Walla Walla Joint Community Development Agency, said utilities are being run to the properties in preparation for construction.
The Marriott development was initially expected to begin late spring.
However, revisions have been made to the proposal. Staff will review those, Maland said.
He expects approval within a week or so. Staging and mobilization would likely take place immediately after.
Ninth & Rose Hospitality LLC is the property owner.
The Marriott development is expected to bring a conference center along with the additional hotel rooms. Developers are still anticipating a spring 2014 opening.
