It’s for the birds.
Friends of feathered creatures in southeastern Washington are atwitter over a $15,000 conservation grant awarded to Blue Mountain Land Trust to help protect important bird habitat.
BMLT successfully competed for a capacity grant from the Intermountain West Joint Venture, a bird conservation organization representing 11 western states, said Alison Greene, BMLT conservation director, in a release.
“The Trust will use the grant over the next year to help work with land owners to protect critical bird habitat in the Blue Mountains region.
“The organization has recently finished a conservation plan that identifies important bird migration and habitat areas. This grant will help Blue Mountain Land Trust put their conservation plan into action,” she said.
“Hundreds of different species of birds count on this area for food, water, and shelter. We look forward to creating community partnerships that will help ensure their survival in the future.”
BMLT is a local non-profit that works in partnership with private landowners and the public to maintain the character and open space of the Blue Mountains region, with special emphasis on water quality and habitat. It works to protect for future generations the land — encompassing working farms and forests, watershed habitat and scenic views.

Participants will tour eight remodeled or new kitchens in homes dating from the late 1900s through 2013.
Proceeds benefit AAUW scholarships and local educational projects.
