Christmas closures

The Christmas Day holiday is Wednesday. The following closures or special hours or days of service will be in effect.

OFFICE BUILDINGS: All federal and state offices will be closed. Walla Walla County offices will be open regular hours Tuesday and closed Christmas Day. Columbia County offices will close at noon Tuesday and be closed Christmas Day. Garfield County offices will be closed Tuesday and Christmas Day. Umatilla County offices will close at 3 p.m. Tuesday and will be closed Christmas Day. Walla Walla city offices will be open regular hours Tuesday and closed Christmas Day. College Place city offices will close at noon Tuesday and be closed on Christmas Day and Thursday. Milton-Freewater city offices will be closed Tuesday and Christmas Day.

POST OFFICES: Post offices will be closed and the only service will be express delivery.

BANKS: All banks will be closed.

SCHOOLS: Schools will be closed.

DEPT. OF LICENSING: The Department of Licensing office on Jade Street in Walla Walla will be closed Christmas Day.

TRANSPORTATION: Valley Transit buses and Dial-A-Ride vans will not operate Christmas Day. The Job Access program will operate for scheduled clients. Normal service will resume Thursday.

DAM CROSSINGS: Crossings on Lower Monumental, Little Goose and Lower Granite dams will be closed.

LIBRARIES: The Walla Walla Public Library and the Milton-Freewater Public Library will be closed Tuesday and Christmas Day.

GARBAGE: The city of Walla Walla will collect Wednesday’s garbage on Thursday. Recycling pickup for Walla Walla residents will be on the same schedule. Milton-Freewater will do Tuesday’s collections on Monday and collect Wednesday’s garbage on Thursday. Basin Disposal will collect on its regular schedules but earlier than usual. Customers need to have it out by the night before.

NEWSPAPER DELIVERY: The Union-Bulletin will not publish on Christmas Day. News, advertising and circulation offices will be closed.

Once again, the U-B, provides partial coverage, failing to note the early closings on Dec. 24, such as the Post Office in College Place (and, possibly, other P.O.s).

I will expect the same half-hearted coverage to ignore early closures on Dec. 31.
