THE DALLES, Ore. — Oregon State Police say an 88-year-old wrong-way driver was involved in a minor injury multiple vehicle crash in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 84 in northeastern Oregon.

Senior Trooper Michael Holloran says preliminary investigation shows that a Toyota driven by 88-year-old Jocelyn Gay of The Dalles headed east on I-84 on Monday morning but missed her exit two miles later. The trooper says the driver apparently was unaware she missed the exit and kept heading eastbound for about 10 miles before realizing her mistake.

Apparently thinking she was on a two-lane highway, Holloran says Gay made a U-turn and then drove westbound in the left eastbound lane. She collided nearly head-on at about 65 mph with a Dodge Caravan driven by a 65-year-old Umatilla woman. Both vehicles hit the median and the Dodge then sideswiped a commercial truck.

State police say both women suffered possible minor injuries.
