Warrior men falter down stretch in loss to Yaks

YAKIMA — Walla Walla Community College’s men had a golden opportunity slip through their fingers here Wednesday night against Yakima Valley.

The Warriors held an 11-point halftime lead, and were up 14 with 13 minutes to play, but the Yaks got their running game going down the stretch and pulled out a 94-84 victory.

“We went up there and played well,” WWCC coach Jeff Reinland said. For 30 minutes we controlled the game, but then our shooting disappeared. We didn’t do as good a job of going to the basket.

“They’re a really good running team, fast, and explosive,” he said. “For 30 minutes we kept them from doing that, then it was like a dam breaking loose.”

The game turned into a tight game, and the Warriors were forced to foul and Yakima hit its free throws to open up the lead for the margin of victory.

Case Rada led WWCC with 21 points, with Dylan Radliff, Dallas Reich and Hunter Hahn each putting up 14 and Eric Harr 13.

“We played well enough to win, we just couldn’t do it,” Reinland said.

The Warriors, now 5-5 in the NWAACC East and 11-11 overall, have four games remaining with five teams above them in the standings.

“We need to take them (games) one at a time, and win as many of them as we can,” Reinland said. “It’s gonna be tough. We’ll see what happens.

Walla Walla hosts Wenatchee Valley at 4 p.m. Saturday.
