Sibyl Irene Taylor, 95, passed away Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at Walla Walla General Hospital, after a short illness. She was born in Nicollet County, Minn., on Nov. 1, 1917, to William L. Carter and Irene Jefferson Carter. At a young age she moved west with her family and settled in Washington state.
She attended Walla Walla schools and graduated from Wa-Hi in 1936. She later attended nurses training at St. Mary Hospital. She began dating Phil Taylor, her brother’s best friend. Phil lived across the street from her family home.
Phil and Sibyl were later married on June 15, 1940, in Moscow, Idaho. They were married for 58 years until Phil passed away in 1998. They raised three sons, Ralph, David and Randy. Sibyl was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker.
Sibyl was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Jefferson William Carter; and sister, Ruth Hart. She is survived by her sons, Ralph P. Taylor and wife, Jerry, of Walla Walla, David F. Taylor and wife, Maura, of Aloha, Ore., and Randal Taylor and wife, Cynthia, of Richland. Other survivors include her sister, Margaret Moore of Spokane; and brother, Wayne Carter of Yukon, Okla.; four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a graveside service on Friday, March 1, at 2 p.m. in the Mountain View Cemetery, S. Second Ave., Walla Walla.
