WALLA WALLA — A resident in the 300 block of North Tausick Way reported an attempted burglary turned into a gun battle this morning at roughly 1:22 a.m. First reports of the alleged gunplay were picked up via radio traffic, and Walla Walla police confirmed the initial call.
Officer Tim Bennett, Walla Walla police spokesman, said officers responded to aid sheriff’s deputies, and assisted the initial investigation and search for suspects.
Radio traffic indicated the resident of a house near the Eastgate Seventh-day Adventist Church reported suspects unknown had attempted to burglarize his house.
According to Walla Walla County Sheriff' John Turner, an investigation is under way to find out exactly what happened. Turner said, in an update just after noon, the resident who reported the attempted burglary claimed the prowler or prowlers fired the first shots. Turner said the man claimed he returned fire with a shotgun.
“We are trying to determine exactly what happened,” Turner said.
