Timbers to get 2013 season rolling in Pendleton area

Soccer fans will get a kick out of special guests coming this weekend to Wildhorse Resort and Casino.

The Mission, Ore., entertainment destination will host players and staff from Major League team the Portland Timbers, who are traveling through the Pendleton area as part of their Dribble Oregon tour.

Forward Brent Richards and defender Ryan Kawulok are scheduled to be in Pendleton and will host a youth clinic at the Round-Up Athletic Club for children ages 5-13, according to a description from Wildhorse.

The Timbers will be at Wildhorse on Sunday. The club will hold a meet-and-greet session with the two as well as with mascot Timber Joey, 7-9 p.m. at Wildfire Sports Bar. The free event is for those 21 and older.

Dribble Oregon, presented by JELD-WEN Windows & Doors, will lead the Timbers to the start of preseason training camp on Jan. 19 as the club begins preparation for a third MLS season. The Timbers play host to the New York Red Bulls in their 2013 season opener March 3, at JELD-WEN Field. Pendleton is one of six communities in Oregon and Southwest Washington the Timbers will visit in January. More information is available at portlandtimbers.com/dribble-oregon.
