Accident near Dayton sends man to hospital


DAYTON — A Lewiston man is in fair condition after a rear-end collision with a semi trailer Friday on U.S. Highway 12 about four miles west of town.

Authorities reported Dwight E. Culdice, 81, was driving a 2007 Chevy Trailblazer at 10:49 a.m. when he struck the rear of a 2006 Freightliner driven by Geoffery Kozina, 56.

Culdice was lifeflighted to St. Joseph Hospital in Lewiston and is in fair condition; his passenger, Lorene Sanders, 88, was transported to Dayton General Hospital and later released.

Kozina was uninjured.

According to Washington State Patrol, inattention was the cause.
