Former Walla Wallans Stephen “Steve” and Gwendolyn Ann “Gwen” Fausti of Tigard, Ore., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday.
They plan to highlight the milestone with a trip to Europe and meet with family in Italy to renew their vows this year.
The couple met while attending Walla Walla High School. They married at St. Francis Catholic Church, Walla Walla, on Jan. 5, 1963. Gwen’s maiden name is Cobain.
Steve earned a Ph.D. in audiology from the University of Washington.
For 40 years, he served in research and patient care leadership positions for the Department of Veterans Affairs in Portland.
He developed, built and led the National Center for Rehabilitative Auditory Research, until retirement in 2010. He holds the rank of professor at Oregon Health & Science University.
He’s a member of Knights of Columbus, and enjoys professional and church-related activities.
At first a stay-at-home mom, Gwen subsequently worked in sales, banking and as an operations and financial manager for a local communications agency.
She is an active member of Daughters of the American Revolution and does volunteer work.
Both enjoy travel, exercise and working and being outdoors.
The couple has three children and a daughter-in-law: Teresa Fausti of Redmond, Wash.; John and Janel Fausti of Portland; and Kristina Fausti of Corvallis.
