WALLA WALLA — An acoustic indie rock quartet and an “incendiary” jazz pianist and vocalist are two of the upcoming performers in Gesa Power House Theatre’s “Spotlight Series.”
Raining Jane and the Michael Kaeshammer Trio will perform in Walla Walla in February and March, respectively, according to an announcement from the theater.
Tickets are $25-$30 for each show and are available at PHTWW.com or 529-6500. Doors open at 7 p.m. for both with showtime at 8 p.m.
The Feb. 9 performance by the all-female Raining Jane will mark a return of the group.
Together since 1999 the four members — Mai Bloomfield, Chaska Potter, Mona Tavakoli and Becky Gebhardt — have made Walla Walla a regular stop since 2004, when it became the first city they played outside of California.
They’ve brought their vocals, songwriting and instrumentation — a cello, a sitar, percussion and lots of guitar — to more than 120 performances per year since 2003.
In 2008 they co-wrote “A Beautiful Mess” with Jason Mraz, featured on the platinum album “We Sing,. We Dance. We Steal Things.”
Raining Jane has released three albums independently and has had songs featured on “Grey’s Anatomy” and “So You Think You Can Dance.”
They’ve also played on Willy Porter’s “How To Rob A Bank.”
Bergevin Lane Vineyard will be the signature sponsor for the February performance at 8 p.m. Selections from the award-winning winery will be available by the glass in the lobby and Electric Lounge.
The March 2 performance from the acclaimed Michael Kaeshammer Trio promises an evening of sophisticated jazz.
Toronto-based Kaeshammer delivers an energetic piano performance with everyone from boogie-woogie to blues and jazz to pop crossover material.
A showman, he’s known for having an acrobatic way with a grand piano.
His most recent studio recording, “Lovelight,” has been critically acclaimed as his best yet, sources say.
