Children need comfortable, modern, safe school

I would like to encourage you to vote “yes” for Walla Walla High School in the bond election on Feb. 12. The need for remodeling Wa-Hi is now, and the time is right, with long-term interest rates at historic lows and a competitive construction market at hand.

It is almost unthinkable that Wa-Hi’s classrooms don’t have any air conditioning or adequate heat.

With technology being such an integral part of our daily lives and our global economy, our students need to be taught in classrooms that are technologically current, not rooms with two power outlets and multiple extension cords and surge protectors.

With over 200 entrances and exits on the Wa-Hi campus, our children are not as safe as they could be.

Our children should be given the best chance of success in a competitive marketplace after high school. Having a school that is comfortable, modern and safe is not too much to ask.

As citizens who care about the greater good of our community, we have collectively voted to maintain public transportation services, to support the construction of a new police station and to fix and maintain our streets (including water and sewer fixes).

Remodeling Wa-Hi and supporting a strong and effective school system should be added to the things we support as a community.
