Six members of the Walla Walla Karate Center competed in the National AAU Karate Championships in Cincinnati, Ohio June 26-29.
Black belt Shaun Brown, 37, won the gold medal in weapons, the silver medal in Kate and the bronze in kumite.
Alex Lybbert, a 16-year-old black belt, tied for gold in weapons, but settled for silver in a tiebreaker. Lybbert won bronze in the boys 16-17 kumite.
Devon Brown, a 12-year-old black belt, won bronze in kumite for his age group.
Reagan Jackson, a 14-year-old brown belt, took silver in weapons and bronze in both kate and kumite.
Ryan Jackson, 13, won silver in weapons and bronze in kamite.
All six competitors first competed in the Pacific Northwest AAU Championships in Seattle in April to qualify for nationals, at which there were more than 1,500 competitors, Karate Center Shihan David Lybbert said.
“I am so proud of our Karate Center competitors,” Shihan Lybbert said. “They put in many hours and attended many tournaments to get ready.”
