If you're looking for a refreshing drink next week, locals are teaming up to fight juvenile arthritis with lemonade.
The Red Monkey Downtown Lounge, Stone Hut Bar & Grill and Green Spoon are helping to put the “aid” in “lemonade” by donating proceeds from their lemonade sales to the Juvenile Arthritis Lemonade Stand through July 19, according to an announcement.
This is the third year for the fundraiser organized by Walla Walla student Allison Wanichek.
Her lemonade will be set up Friday, July 19 outside of Walla Walla Builders Supply, 607 W. Tietan St., noon-3 p.m.
She started the fundraising two years ago after being diagnosed with juvenile arthritis and to spread the word about its effects on kids, too. Since the beginning her efforts have raised more than $8,000 for the Arthritis Foundation.
“The community support has been awesome, and I love it when people come tell me that they have arthritis, too,” Wanichek said in the announcement.
The stand this year is “squeezing in” some additional funding for a local charity, organizers say. Children’s Wishes and Dreams will share a piece of the fundraising pie. “We wanted to donate money to Children’s Wishes and Dreams this year because we think what they do is amazing and we wanted to help,” said Wanichek’s brother, Jack, who co-hosts the fundraiser.
Assists in running the lemonade stand also come from cousins Abbie and Ellie Rothstrom, Bri Stonebreaker and numerous other friends and family members.
Those wishing to donate can send checks to Juvenile Arthritis Lemonade Stand, P.O. Box 2609 Walla Walla, WA 99362. Checks can be payable to The Arthritis Foundation or Children’s Wishes and Dreams.
