WALLA WALLA — A third suspect has been arrested in connection with an April shooting of a man in an alley behind the 1700 block of Portland Avenue.
Lucas M. Hancock, 22, of 816 Figueroa St., was taken into custody at his residence early this morning and booked into the County Jail on investigation of first-degree rendering criminal assistance.
Police believe Hancock gave a ride to one of the primary suspects following the shooting, knowing it had taken place. Bail for Hancock was set this morning at $20,000.
The previously arrested defendants, Timothy T. Parlor, 19, and Shawn A. Crump, 21, are charged in Superior Court with one count each of first-degree assault. Both are in jail on $250,000 bail awaiting trial.
Parlor and Crump are accused of taking part in the April 13 shooting of Blake D. Nelson, 26, who suffered .22-caliber gunshot wounds to his chest, hand and head, reportedly while in his car in the Portland Avenue alley.
Police said he arrived there about 3 a.m. with Parlor and Crump, who were passengers. Statements given to authorities by the three men conflict, but officials believe Parlor pulled a handgun and shot Nelson, according to a police report presented in court this morning.
The two suspects fled and, a short time later, Nelson reportedly staggered into Aziz Chevron, 1916 Isaacs Ave., and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Parlor and Crump allegedly ran to a nearby residence, and Crump claims he phoned Hancock and asked Hancock to pick him up.
In a phone call to a person from the County Jail in May, “Shawn Crump said Lucas Hancock kept asking him if Blake Nelson was dead,” the police report says. “Shawn said he told Lucas he (Timothy Parlor) missed. Shawn said Lucas asked him again, is he dead? Shawn again said he told Lucas he (Timothy Parlor) missed. Shawn said he was trying to explain it to him.”
Crump was arrested April 14; Parlor was taken into custody two days later.
Police did not release a specific motive for the shooting, but said it might have been drug-related.
