WALLA WALLA — The trails surrounding Bennington Lake will be crowded with runners and bikers today at the first Walla Walla Dirty Duathlon.
The sporting event, which was created by Assumption School math and PE teacher Michael Gordon, starts with a 2.7-mile bike ride, followed by a 15.4-mile run and ending with another 2.7-mile ride, all on the dirt trails surrounding the lake.
“Being right here near town, it is a good mix of challenge. It’s a good mix of a fitness course, where it requires someone to be in good shape, and it requires some technical ability. But it is not too technical,” Gordon said.
More than 60 riders and runners are expected to compete today, with the race starting at 10 a.m.
Though it is too late to register for the race, spectators are welcome.
