MADRAS, Ore. — McLouglin High School’s baseball team made a costly error in the first inning, allowing three runs into score, falling 4-3 in seven innings to Madras here Friday.
Two of the three runs were unearned in the first and Madras tacked on another in the fifth.
The Pioneers mustered only two hits to score its runs, one of them unearned in the bottom of the fifth.
The Pioneers scored their first run after Jeffrey Jones reached on a walk, stole second and Dylan Shuler singled him into score.
Jones walked again in the third inning, stole second and Chase Copenhaver sent him home with an RBI single.
Jose Aguilar led off in the fifth, walked before stealing second and third. He scored two outs later on an error by Madras.
Mac-Hi stole five bases, walked six times and struck out eight times.
“We had some chances to get timely hits and score some more runs but we didn’t,” Mac-Hi coach Mike Garcia said. “Only getting two base-hits wasn’t good either. We made a couple of errors but had some fine defensive plays too.”
The Pioneers (1-1) play again Saturday at Pendleton in a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.
