POMEROY — Pomeroy High School split with Tekoa-Oakesdale-Rosalia, winning 11-7 and losing 17-5, Saturday in a Southeast 1B-2B baseball game.

“For the first time out this season we did well,” Pomeroy coach Dave Boyer said. “Everybody got to play and get some more experience. We have a real good, young group of ball players.”

Havin Heytvelt pitched the first five innings in the win. The freshan struck out seven, gave up a run on three hits and walked one. He also contributed two hits in the contest.

Boyer said that three eighth-graders were in the throwing rotation today, getting their first varsity experiences.

“I’m not going to complain at all about our performances today,” Boyer said. “I was proud of the boys.”

The Pirates (1-1) host Granger (Idaho) Saturday at noon.
