W-P goes 2-1 in Rocket Robin tournament

PILOT ROCK — The Waitsburg-Prescott baseball team competed in the Pilot Rock Rocket Robin tournament here Friday and Saturday, finishing 2-1 in the four-team tournament.

On Friday W-P opened with a 18-0 drubbing of Kennedy behind two home runs and five RBIs from Dalton Estes.

W-P went through the lineup twice in the fourth inning on the strength of seven walks and one of Estes’s home runs.

And Estes set the tone on the mound with four scoreless and hitless innings.

On Saturday W-P thumped Pilot Rock 13-3 in five innings.

Estes contributed two hits again, and so did Chance Leroue.

“We didn’t pitch all that well against Pilot Rock,” W-P coach Dustin Snidegar said. “We surrendered lots of walks earlier but we outhit them.”

W-P fell to Union, 2-1, in the final game of its tournament. The leadoff hitter for W-P, Nolan Allen, doubled in the first inning and Estes singled him into score.

W-P didn’t get another hit for the rest of the game and Union pitcher Kaleb Poor struck out 13 without giving up a walk.

“Our bats went cold in that third game,” Snidegar said. “Give their pitcher credit though, he threw well.”

W-P (2-1) hosts Weston-McEwen Tuesday at 4 p.m.
