Smith Frozen Foods promotes Crowder to president


The longtime chief financial officer for Weston’s Smith Frozen Foods Inc. has been named the company’s new president.

Gary S. Crowder will assume responsibilities of president and CFO on April 1, the company announced.

He succeeds Kelly W. Brown, who is fulfilling an assignment as mission president of the Colorado Fort Collins Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Smith owner and board Chairman Gordon H. Smith announced the changeover, praising Brown’s work with the 94-year-old vegetable processor.

“For more than 30 years Kelly W. Brown has been integral to the success and progress of Smith Frozen Foods Inc.,” Smith said in a prepared statement. “He leaves the company much stronger than he found it and fully prepared for the challenges of tomorrow. He departs for his new church assignment with our appreciation and affection.”

Smith was equally complimentary of Crowder: “His many years of experience with the company, his keen knowledge of finance and his thoughtful personal demeanor qualify him, amply, to assume leadership of the company and to assure its vibrant future.”

Crowder has been with the company since 1994 with roles as assistant comptroller, corporate controller and CFO. He earned his bachelor’s in accounting at Oregon State University. He also studied at Brigham Young University.
