RICHLAND — Wa-Hi was no match for Richland here Thursday as the Bombers defeated the Blue Devils 6-1 in a boys non-conference tennis match.
The loss left Wa-Hi with a 1-1 record. The Blue Devils won’t play again until next Thursday when they return to the Tri-Cities to face Hanford.
Wa-Hi’s lone point came at the No. 4 doubles match, with Connor Christensen defeating Brian Talbot 7-5, 6-2.
“For our first away match and the quality of the opponent, I was pleased with most players’ efforts,” first-year Wa-Hi coach Bryan Eggart said. “The Richland players did a much better job handling pressure points than we did. We had a lot of close games, but we had trouble closing out both duce and ad points.
“Connor Christensen played an outsanding match,” Eggart added, “really thinking his way through points. He was very mentally tough.”
The match was played in a mix of wind, rain and even snow, Eggart noted.
