PASCO — Too much pitching.

DeSales High School opened Southeast 2B baseball action with a sweep of Tri-Cities Prep here Saturday.

The Irish gave up seven hits in winning the opener 8-2 and Cam Richman tossed a one-hit, five-inning shutout as the Irish posted an 11-0 win in the second game.

The Jaguars had to play through the recent loss of their athletic director, Ray Whitlow, who was recently lost in a traffic accident.

“Tri-Cities Prep has been through a lot this week,” Irish coach Kim Cox said. “Ray Whitlow was loved by everyone. They (the Jaguars) played well.”

Travis Haen collected three hits to lead the offense in the opening win. Logan Hoeft, in addition to pitching the Irish to a 5-2 lead through five innings, collected two hits. Adam Eskil joined the hit parade with two.

With Richman in control on the mound, the Irish pounded out nine hits to blank the Jaguars 11-0. Hoeft’s three hits led the way. Cody Josifek had two hits and drove in three, and Haen added two hits.

“Each of our three pitchers threw well,” Cox said. “Travis (Haen, five hits on the day) and Logan (Hoeft, also five hits) had good days offensively.”

The Irish, 4-0, 2-0, travel to Burbank Tuesday for a non-league battle with the Coyotes.
