PASCO — DeSales High School pounded out 30 hits in opening the Southeast 2B girls softball season with a doubleheader sweep of Tri-Cities Prep.
The Irish presented roses to Tri Cities Prep’s players prior to the game in honor of long-time Southeast 2B advocate and athletic director Ray Whitlow, who was killed in a recent auto accident.
The Irish pounded out 12 hits and Ashlyn Lyons struck out 14 and limited the Jaguars to three hits in the circle for DeSales as the Irish took the opener 11-3.
The Irish barrage continued into the nightcap as DeSales backed eighth-grader Kalee Brown in her first varsity start in the circle with a 15-run, 18-hit attack and completed the sweep with a 15-0 win.
“It was a good start,” DeSales coach Russ Vera said. “We came out and hit the ball and ran the bases well. It was nice to see the girls be aggressive at the plate and keep our errors down.”
The top of the order did a lot of damage for the Irish.
Teresa Acock, Molli Lesko, and Ashlyn Lyons each had two hits in each game. Allesyn Lyons, Claire Conley, and Bri James added two hits each to the DeSales’ 12-hit attack in the opener. Brown added three hits, Brittany Postlewait, Cara Hall, and Bobbi Prior each collect two hits in the 15-0 nite cap win.
The Irish, 2-1 on the year, host Mac-Hi’s junior varsity squad Tuesday and Colfax visits Thursday.
