WENATCHEE — Walla Walla Community College scored three fifth-inning runs in the nightcap of the opening NWAACC East Region twin bill with Wenatchee Valley here Wednesday to key a 4-3 victory.
Following an opening 8-1 loss to the Knights, the Warriors come home at 1-1 in league play, 9-9 overall.
“It was nice to see the guys bounce back after a tough loss to get a split on the road,” WWCC coach Dave Meliah said.
The teams had equal hits on the day, 10 each in the opener and six-all in the nightcap, but the Warriors couldn’t find the holes.
“We hit a lot of balls hard on the day, but right at them,” Meliah said.
Seth Wolfe had three hits for WWCC in the opener, and Jarrod Turner had the Warriors’ lone run with a seventh-inning shot.
In the nightcap, the Knights put up a third-inning run to hold the lead into the fifth. That’s when Kevin Toon’s RBI scored Brett Christina, and Corey Morris’ fielder’s choice plated Toon.
Jarrod Gonzales then had an RBI triple to score pinch runner Moe Handox to make it 3-1.
Wenatchee Valley answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to tie it up.
In the sixth, Toon smacked a two-out single to score Ryan Neal for what proved to be the winning run.
The Warriors host Yakima for a twin bill at 1 p.m. Saturday.
