Smith throws no-hitter, homers twice to lead Dayton past SJELWK

DAYTON — Dayton High School’s Lowden Smith ruled the day in a baseball doubleheader here in 11-0 and 13-8 wins over St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus here in Class 2B action.

Smith struck out 15 batters, walked only one and threw a no-hitter in game one. He also hit two triples and had three RBIs.

Smith added two home runs in game two.

The first game was a landslide, game two was closer.

Dayton’s starter in the night cap, Logan Hayes, pitched into the sixth inning and left with an 8-5 lead, but also left the bases loaded and nobody out.

Reliever Christian Warner left them loaded after throwing two strikeouts and pop fly to end the inning.

Dayton (2-4, 2-2 SE2B) plays again Tuesday at Colton at 2 p.m. in a non-league doubleheader.

“Lowden Smith hit the ball really hard all day long,” Dayton coach Sal Benavides said. “Christian Warner also did a great job relieving in game two.”
