Wa-Hi splits extra inning games with Chiawana

PASCO — Walla Walla High School split with Chiawana Friday in two Mid-Columbia Conference extra-innings baseball games.

Wa-Hi lost the first game 8-7 and won the second 6-3, both in eight innings.

Chiawana won the first game when an error on a routine ground ball with two outs gone allowed the winning run to cross home.

The Blue Devils got revenge in game two with three runs in the top of the eighth to win.

Wa-Hi loaded the bases with an Adam Mathews walk, Daniel Lake hit-by-pitch and Ali Buentello walk.

With two outs gone and a full count, Trevor Coronado hit singled to score two runs. Buentello scored an insurance run on a wild pitch.

“We are always happy to split on the road,” Wa-Hi coach Keith Gradwohl said. “But we still had our chances to win game one too. It just didn’t happen.”

Wa-Hi (3-5, 1-3 MCC) visits Pendleton for a single game Tuesday at 1 p.m.
