Irish fire on all cylinders at W-P

PRESCOTT — DeSales’ baseball team was clicking on all cylinders here Tuesday afternoon, handing Waitsburg-Prescott 13-0 and 17-2 Southeast 2B League defeats in shortened outings.

The Irish, now 14-2 overall and 9-1 in SE2B play, got a one-hit effort from Cameran Richman and Conner Richard on the mound in the opening victory.

In the nightcap, Logan Hoeft and Adam Eskil took over DeSales’ pitching duties, giving up two runs on five hits.

But the Irish bats smacked 13 hits to runaway with the win.

“(I) thought that DeSales pitching and hitting was dominant,” W-P coach Dustin Snedigar said. “They threw strikes and stayed ahead of the hitters.

“In game one, (Irish pitcher) Cam Richman took control early and kept the ball down, limiting our bats,” he said. “The Irish took advantage of struggles on the mound, and swung it well when necessary.

In game two, the trend continued with Irish pitching (Hoeft and Eskil) limiting our bats, and we struggled to find the strike zone. But when we did, the Irish pounded the ball.”

W-P pitchers walked 17 and hit four DeSales batters on the day.

“We struggled to throw strike one all day,” Snedigar said. “You can’t allow 21 free bases and survive.”

W-P, now 12-5 overall and 7-3 in SE2B play, travels to Asotin to finish up the regular season with an 11 a.m. first pitch.

“We will work hard the next few days, and be ready for Asotin,” Snedigar said.
