Pirates drop baseball twin bill to Gar-Pal

POMEROY — The Pomeroy High School baseball team played two non-leagues versus Garfield-Palouse here Tuesday, losing 9-4 and 11-8.

“We had six kids playing out of position and five pitchers gone to other commitments,” Pomeroy coach Dave Boyer said. “We swept Gar-Pal over the weekend when it counted in league and had some players gone this last doubleheader.”

The game was 5-4, Gar-Pal, going into the seventh of game one.

Gar-Pal exploded for four runs to take the 9-4 win in the top of the seventh.

The Pirates rallied in bottom of the seventh in game two, scoring three runs only to lose by three.

Game two was only played for just five innings because of both team’s unavailability of pitchers.

“It was a fun couple of games,” Boyer said. “Kids that haven’t got to play much this season got a chance to get some innings in.”

Pomeroy (5-15, 2-6 Southeast 1B) plays in loser-out format Tuesday at 5 p.m. in Colton.
