Fire District 5 out of Burbank was called to a fire in the Boise paper mill tree farm off Highway 124 at around noon Saturday. Three of the 400-foot-long slash piles that were to be burned at a later date caught fire and spread to a field, destroying two acres, three power poles and cutting off power to the area briefly. District Fire Chief Mike Wickstrom said the fire probably started when high winds blew up embers from another slash pile burn from earlier in the week. Walla Walla County Fire District 3 and Franklin County Fire District 3 assisted. No injuries or other damage was reported.
