EAST WENATCHEE — The Waitsburg Elite scored 13 first-quarter points to hold a 13-6 advantage over the Wenatchee Valley Rams here Saturday night, but the Rams exploded with 21 in the second stanza and cruised to the 41-13 minor league football victory.

“The game started with a very competitive first quarter, with the Rams taking advantage of a fumble on our first drive and scoring on their first offensive play,” Elite head coach Johnny Brown said. “We came right back with a quick defensive stop and forced a punt.”

Elite quarterback George Martinez then found Michael Carter streaking down the left sideline for a 79-yard touchdown strike.

Another Waitsburg defensive stop was followed by a 60-yard drive, capped by a 26-yard touchdown pass from Martinez to Brandon Mitchell to end the first quarter with the Elite up 13-6.

“Then, we started to feel the heat and the guys got tired,” Brown said. “With so many guys playing both ways, and then having a few badly timed injuries, they wore us down and tired us out.”

Following the Rams’ 21-point second quarter, they put up 14 in the third quarter to wrap up scoring.

Waitsburg is now 2-2 overall, 2-1 in WFL play, next host the Snohomish Vikings at Cardinal Field at 6 p.m. Saturday.
