Red Monkey to overhaul decor, menus, marketing


An evolution of sorts is taking place at the Red Monkey Downtown Lounge, 25 W. Alder St.

Anyone who’s been inside the business in the past many weeks likely has noticed the removal of art on the walls and the running commentary about upcoming changes on the crawler that accompanies videos shown on the lounge’s television screens. Changes are afoot for the decor and appearance, service and food, officials say.

The business, owned by Juston Watson, has already unveiled a new logo.

The changes are being made over time, and part of the transition is an emphasis on the fact that the business is more than a weekend nightclub, operators say.

The business will continue to be a hotspot for fun, with dancing on Friday and Saturday nights. But there’s also emphasis on its menu, which is being made over, and on the Monkey as a destination for lunch and dinner. In the next couple of months, operators say, more changes will be made to the menu, marketing and interior to reflect the business’s profile as more than a nightclub.
