Infant assault trial reset for Sept. 17

WALLA WALLA — A new trial date has been set for a local man accused of throwing his infant daughter to the floor in January, causing a fractured skull.

Alan R. Hackney, 21, had been set for trial in Superior Court starting next Tuesday on the charge of second-degree assault of a child — domestic violence. The proceedings are now set for Sept. 17.

Officials claim Hackney intentionally assaulted Sophia J. Hackney at their residence at 2107 Granite Drive on Jan. 4. Sophia was 1 month old at the time.

Hackney and the girl’s mother, Robyn Herald, took her to Walla Walla General Hospital that day because Sophia’s head was swollen.

Doctors discovered a fractured skull and sent her to Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital in Spokane. After her discharge, she was returned to Walla Walla and Child Protective Services became involved in the case.

Hackney pleaded innocent and is not in custody, pending the outcome of the case.

If convicted as charged, he faces a standard-range prison term of 31-41 months.

Sounds like the young man has a vile temper. He shouldn't have access to the baby.....anytime, anywhere.
